# REST API, Markdown & JSON | RenewCMS

> Connect your frontend to RenewCMS with a REST API. Read articles as Markdown, HTML or JSON, retrieve SEO metadata and explore OpenAPI and optional MCP tools.

Canonical page: https://renewcms.dev/en/developers

Read articles through the REST API as Markdown (the default), stored HTML or JSON blocks. Article write bodies remain HTML. Use the version-matched reference for routes, parameters, pagination and response shapes.

Published articles can be read anonymously. Draft access follows role permissions. Custom content entries require authentication. API keys inherit the creator’s current permissions; they are not independently scoped.

The API supplies resolved canonical, Open Graph, Twitter and JSON-LD data. Your consuming frontend must render these tags itself.

A running CMS instance serves its own /openapi.json, /llms.txt, /llms-full.txt and /llms/<page>.md resources. These describe that instance’s version, not this marketing website.

The optional renewcms-mcp executable is a separate stdio MCP server that calls your instance over HTTP with an API key. Destructive tools are disabled by default. This website does not host an MCP endpoint or a live content API.
